
Dr. Simon Echegu

Associate Professor Simon Echegu currently works as an academic and researcher in the Department of Energy, Minerals and Petroleum Studies (EMPS) in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology (FAST) at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST). He has 24 years of experience in the Oil and Gas Industry, most of it gained from working in the Albertine Graben; initially as a Petroleum Geochemist for 10 years, and later as a consultant, at the Directorate of Petroleum, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
Professor Echegu holds a Special Presidential Recognition for dedicated Exploration Effort from Government. He is also a member of the Governing Council of Uganda Petroleum Institute, Kigumba (UPIK) as well as a member of the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), Technical Committee (UNBS/TC 317); petroleum refining and transportation materials, equipment and structures. He has worked as a Lead Expert (Petroleum) on various assignments for the National Council for Higher Education in Uganda.
A Fulbright Science and Technology Awardee, Professor Echegu holds a PhD. in Geology (Petroleum Geochemistry/Basin and Petroleum Systems) from the University of Houston; MSc. Petroleum Geochemistry from the University of Newcastle; BSc. Geology from Makerere University; Diploma in Management of Petroleum Development and Operations from PETRAD Norway; and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from Uganda Management Institute. He holds also, several Certifications in Corporate Governance.
