Our corporate strategy resonates well with the new sustainable development goal agenda 2015-2030. There are strong linkages between UNOC’s strategy and the SDG’s, UNOC’s interventions will contribute to at least 11 out of 17 sustainable development goals.
The strategy aims at attracting, developing, and retaining skilled staff, taking keen consideration on creating employment opportunities for women and females through business and strategic partnerships.
This will be achieved by implementing gender-fair recruitment, work systems and policies, development standards to promote employee diversity at all levels of governance including building a professional and skilled workforce.
SDG 1: No Poverty
At the Corporate level, the Vision of UNOC is “To be an innovative and profitable company that operates across the petroleum value chain for the benefit of all Ugandans”, therefore the current Corporate strategy will make direct contribution towards SDG 1 (ending poverty).
SDG 11 & 13
UNOC’s intervention towards enhancing HSSE Performance aligns well with SDG 13 (climate action) and SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities).
SDG 9
The strategy aims at developing and implementing foundational and strategic infrastructure projects such as the Refinery, Industrial parks, Storage Terminals, establishment of East African Crude Oil pipeline, these projects have significant and direct benefits towards SDG9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure).
By promoting national content, UNOC, will implement initiatives aimed at building capacity for entrepreneurs and SME’s, establishment of business incubation centres to nurture birding enterprises. These measures will aim at enabling local sourcing of inputs plus hiring of nationals to participate in the oil and gas industry.
SDG 10: Reduce Inequality
Additional initiatives will include, promoting developing local procurement and supplier development strategies and standards for all capital projects. These have a direct contribution with SGD 8 (Decent work and Economic Growth) and SDG 10 (Reduce inequality).

SDG 16 & 17
UNOC’s strategy is keen to outline initiatives to adopt good practice principles and guidelines that will align business practices for sustainable development.
In addition, UNOC will develop and prioritise multi-stakeholder initiatives aimed at improving stakeholder buy-in and strengthening sustainable partnerships across the oil and gas value chain.
