UNOC and  Baker Hughes EHO Ltd Sign MoU to Build Technical Capabilities and Operationalize UNOC’s Center of Excellence

DUBAI, October 8, 2025 — The Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC), the Government of Uganda’s state-owned commercial entity in the oil and gas sector, and Baker Hughes, a global energy and services company, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on building technical capabilities and operationalizing UNOC’s Center of Excellence for Research, Training, and Innovation.

As part of its 2030 strategic ambition, UNOC seeks to develop capabilities that will enable it to become an independent operator in the oil and gas industry. To realise this ambition, UNOC recognises the importance of partnering with global industry leaders such as Baker Hughes to identify areas of mutual interest, build world-class expertise, and position UNOC as a leading regional player in the oil and gas sector.

This collaboration also aims to establish UNOC as a benchmark for innovative solutions in the petroleum industry across sub-Saharan Africa.

Commenting on the partnership, *UNOC Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Proscovia Nabbanja , noted that the agreement represents a significant milestone in unlocking and optimizing value for both operated and non-operated projects. She highlighted that the partnership will leverage Baker Hughes’ vast industry experience in service delivery, technology, and technical enablement to accelerate UNOC’s capabilities and strengthen its potential to provide technical services to the petroleum sector.

Speaking on behalf of Baker Hughes, Mr. Hatem Salem, Geo Market Vice President– SSA, expressed his delight in officiating the partnership, describing it as both timely and strategic. He emphasized that, in light of UNOC’s overarching purpose of “Creating Value for Generations” and the achievements made over the past decade, the partnership aligns seamlessly with Baker Hughes’ DNA — which is rooted in collaborations that deliver on-demand solutions to the energy industry.
